Navigating the Standards

I designed and developed an Articulate Rise module (originally designed to last about 30 minutes, but currently being expanded) to help new historic preservation commissioners apply federal preservation standards in real decision-making contexts.

The course is grounded in cognitivist and connectivist learning theory, supporting both conceptual understanding and learners’ ability to navigate real-world knowledge networks (e.g., federal standards, local guidelines, and commission practices).

Instruction follows a learn → interpret → apply sequence, combining short video instruction with scenario-based practice and feedback to help learners determine which standards apply and explain their reasoning.

I applied UDL and multimedia learning principles throughout, including aligned visuals and text, signaling, chunking, and multiple access points to key information to manage cognitive load and support diverse learners.
